Bio

Nina Fontana is a community-engaged ecologist and educator committed to fostering inclusive, transdisciplinary research, education, and policy initiatives. She is passionate about identifying impactful strategies for centering essential stewardship practices into environmental policy and action, especially in today’s landscape of climate change. For this project, Fontana is developing, planning, and implementing a range of climate responsive stewardship strategies on California Indian allotments based on climate vegetation modeling, risk profiling and mapping (Thorne and Battles' analyses). To understand and address the challenges and opportunities allottees face on their lands, Fontana will conduct field research, co-develop demonstration adaptation workshops, and work in active collaboration with CAPDAA, allottees, research team members, and agencies.
